Prague, the enchanting capital of the Czech Republic, beckons UK tourists for a captivating one-night short break filled with medieval charm, architectural wonders, and Bohemian allure. Whether you’re crossing historic bridges, exploring castle grounds, or savouring Czech cuisine, Prague promises an enchanting and unforgettable experience for UK holidaymakers.
Short Breaks to Prague from London
If you are looking to spend a weekend break in Prague then London airports are your best bet. Flights from London Stansted (Ryanair), London Gatwick (Wizz Air & easyJet), London Luton (Wizz Air and easyJet) and London Heathrow (British Airways) are all options. The British Airways flights give you the most time in Prague and if you are looking to travel mid week on a one night stay are perhaps your only option. Flights from other regional UK airports are offered by low cost carriers but would require you to stay two nights.
Arriving in Prague
Travelling from the airport to the centre of Prague takes you around 50 minutes. Take a bus from the airport to either the metro station (bus 119) or the main rail line into the city (bus AE).
Commence your Prague adventure at the Old Town Square, where the Astronomical Clock captivates with its hourly show. Explore the surrounding cobblestone streets and charming alleys. Head to the Charles Bridge, an iconic 14th-century bridge adorned with statues and offering panoramic views of the Vltava River.
Cross the river to Prague Castle, a sprawling complex that includes the stunning St. Vitus Cathedral. Marvel at the Gothic architecture and explore the historic chambers of the castle. Enjoy a leisurely stroll through the castle gardens, offering serene views of the city.
In the evening, dine in Josefov, the Jewish Quarter, known for its rich history and diverse culinary scene; or explore Vinohrady, a residential area with a trendy atmosphere and diverse dining options. Alternatively, spend your evening along the Náplavka Riverbank, where you can relax by the water, enjoy local street food, and experience Prague’s nightlife. Do also consider a classical concert at the Rudolfinum Concert Hall, showcasing the city’s musical heritage.
On day two, begin your day in the Holesovice district, known for its Bohemian art scene. Explore DOX Centre for Contemporary Art and immerse yourself in modern Czech creativity. Visit the Kafka Museum to delve into the life and works of the renowned writer. There are two other museums alternatives:
- the National Technical Museum, showcasing the evolution of technology and industry in the Czech Republic.
- the National Museum at the top of the square, housing exhibits on Czech history, art, and culture
