You can walk to Burghley from the town centre of there is a car park close to the main house.
Returning back to Stamford, explore St Martins Antique Centre and explore St. Martin’s Church, a medieval masterpiece that has stood for centuries. Afterward, take a leisurely stroll through Stamford Meadows, along the River Welland and pause for great views of the town.
Return to Stamford’s town centre for a delightful afternoon of exploring independent boutiques and quaint tea rooms. Stamford’s High Street is lined with charming shops and cafes, offering an opportunity to immerse yourself in the town’s unique Georgian character. You might recognise the film from a few film sets.

Begin your second day in Stamford with a stop at one of Stamford’s many coffee shops. The town centre also benefits from a many churches which you can visit and explore. Continue to explore using the Stamford Town Trail or take a guided tour.
If you are visiting Stamford by car, consider heading over to Rutland Water. We suggest getting views of the reservoir from Normanton Church. For those more energetic you can also hire bikes from the south shore.

Travelling to Stamford for a Weekend Break
Stamford is conveniently located just off the A1 in southern Lincolnshire. Whilst having a car is beneficial, all of the main sights within the town are within walking distance and the town caters for city dwellers looking to escape the big smoke on public transport.
Stamford train station is located in the heart of the town with hourly services. If travelling out of London, connect via Peterborough. The LNER service is the fastest and for a weekend break you can leave Kings Cross at 9am and be in Stamford at just after 10am. Return times are slightly longer but you can stay up until mid evening and get back into London before 10pm. LNER also has connections from the North so travel to Stamford from Leeds, Doncaster, Newark or even York.
The slower Thameslink service also connects from Peterborough but gives you wider connections from Horsham, Crawley, Gatwick, Redhill, Croydon, London stations in both the South and North of the city, and Stevenage.
There is also a cross country service from Birmingham that also connects Stamford to Leicester and Cambridge. Leave Birmingham on Saturdays at just after 8:20am and again be in Stamford ready to enjoy your weekend break for 10am. Your return leg again takes slightly longer and a change on Sundays usually is needed at Leicester.
