Cheap Breaks to Vienna

Vienna is one of three European destinations which have the first flights from Heathrow every morning. Along with Zurich and Lisbon, you can head off to Vienna at 6am in the morning and arrive in Austria at just after 9am in the morning. Take the direct train into the city and you can be in the centre by late morning. An obvious destination for a Christmas Market break, Vienna offers year round opportunities for a romantic break. Whether you want to view historic palaces or just sit in cafes and consume coffee and cake, this is one European city to have on your bucket list.

Short Breaks to Vienna from London

The best Nano trip options to Vienna involve flights departing from London Heathrow. Austrian  Airlines offer the 6am departure mentioned above and British Airways offers a flight just after 7am. Both options get you into Vienna by 11am. Return evening flights from both airlines are available the next evening with Austrian again offering the latest flight year round just after 8pm.

Low cost options are available and we would suggest looking at Ryanair from Stansted to maximise a weekend stay in Vienna. Ryanair have flights in the summer that match the scheduled carriers coming out of Heathrow. If you are flexible with flying into or back from different UK airports then do check fares from Wizz Air (from LGW) but their times are not as conducive for a weekend break.

Short Breaks to Vienna from Manchester

Manchester Airport does boast direct connections with Vienna through Austrian Airlines but times do not really align for a weekend break without you having to take time off. If you are looking to not use any of your annual leave, we suggest flying indirect. Flights to Brussels at just after 6am connect you with Vienna ensuring you arrive early afternoon. Maximise your second day and fly back just before 8pm, this time via Munich with Lufthansa.

Airport Transport to Vienna

The easiest route into the centre of Vienna is by train. Regular services depart from the airport and take just over 15 minutes. The train takes you into the main Wien Mitte hub. There are a few hotel options nearby which might be useful to drop off bags or pick up luggage for your return. Look at investing in a Vienna Card which can offer you 48 hours access to museums and transport. You can even include airport travel for a small supplement.

One Night in Vienna

Getting around Vienna is straightforward but with 23 districts there are many areas to consider. Staying central can be expensive so do plan ahead and find accommodation close to the things your want to do whilst in Vienna. If travelling for the Christmas market, then book early to get the best prices.

No visit to Vienna is complete without indulging in its culinary delights. Treat your taste buds to the city’s famed Sachertorte, a decadent chocolate cake layered with apricot jam, or savor a traditional Wiener Schnitzel paired with a glass of crisp Grüner Veltliner. For a quintessential Viennese experience, head to one of the city’s historic coffeehouses, such as Café Central or Demel, where you can linger over a creamy Melange while soaking in the ambiance of centuries past.

Beyond its cultural treasures, Vienna offers a wealth of artistic experiences, from the masterpieces of the Kunsthistorisches Museum to the avant-garde works showcased at the MuseumsQuartier. Art aficionados will delight in exploring the city’s vibrant galleries and exhibitions, while music lovers can revel in the legacy of Mozart, Beethoven, and Strauss with a visit to the Vienna State Opera.
